Positive results of Belarus-UNODC efforts to combat human trafficking

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - Belarus and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime noted the positive results of joint efforts to combat trafficking in human beings. The statement was made during a meeting between Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov and Deputy UN Secretary General, UNODC’s Executive Director Yuri Fedotov, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

"During the meeting the parties took note of the positive results of joint efforts to fight trafficking in human beings", the press service noted. Among the most largest recent joint activities was the review of the implementation of the global plan of action to combat trafficking in human beings at the 68th session of the UN General Assembly; arranging the events in New York, Vienna, Paris and Geneva dedicated to the first World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

Valentin Rybakov and Yuri Fedotov stressed the need to strengthen the implementation of the global plan of the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons (ICAT) coordinated by the UNODC. Valentin Rybakov also noted the interest in working together to promote the topics of prevention of trafficking in human organs in the United Nations.

Yuri Fedotov, for his part, praised the efforts of Belarus to combat human trafficking and confirmed the willingness to further the cooperation in this area.
