MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko held telephone talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on 9 October, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.
The heads of state discussed the agenda of the forthcoming CIS summit in Minsk. The Ukrainian President apologized for inability to attend the CIS Heads of State Council meeting and asked the President of Belarus as the CIS Chairman to get Ukraine’s point across to the summiteers. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus will represent his country’s interests at the summit.
The President of Ukraine also asked the Belarusian head of state to put across Ukraine’s position in view of the recent events in Lugansk and Donetsk Oblasts. Petro Poroshenko informed the President of Belarus on his planned meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in the near future. According to Petro Poroshenko, the counterparts are expected to discuss the whole range of issues of the Ukrainian-Russian agenda, including the ceasefire in southeast Ukraine.
The Presidents of Belarus and Ukraine also discussed bilateral cooperation. Petro Poroshenko proposed Alexander Lukashenko to meet in Ukraine in the near future to consider bilateral relations and the international agenda.
