Polish Embassy in Belarus to start issuing biometric visas in 2015

MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – The Polish Embassy in Belarus will start to issue biometric visas as from 29 January 2015, BelTA learned from spokeswoman for the Polish Embassy in Minsk Anna Derska.

Under the new rules, Polish Schengen visa applicants will be asked to electronically scan each hand. "There will be no need to be fingerprinted every time when a person files for a visa. The fingers will be scanned once in 59 months,” explained Anna Derska.

She also noted that with the introduction of biometric visas Polish Schengen visa applicants will be required to visit the embassy to give their biometric data by way of fingerprints. “Everyone will be fingerprinted at the consular section. It is not important whether the documents are filed through a travel agency or independently,” she said.

This requirement will not be applied to children under 12.

The issue of opening Polish visa application centers in Belarus in 2015 is under consideration. Anna Derska noted that the information regarding the visa process will be updated on the website of the Embassy of Poland in Belarus.
