MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – Plans to arrange a visit of the president of Armenia to Belarus have been made, BelTA learned from Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei after his meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Minsk on 21 April.
No definite date for the visit has been named yet. Vladimir Makei noted that the sides have agreed to analyze the legal base soon as well as the progress in implementing projects and fulfilling arrangements in trade, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian spheres. The sides will also discuss all the topical aspects of cooperation at the session of the joint intergovernmental commission in June in order to get closer to making decisions on bolstering the bilateral cooperation and legislating them during the consequent visit of the Armenia president to Belarus.
Armenia is an important partner of Belarus in Transcaucasia. The advancement of relations with Armenia meets long-term foreign policy and foreign economy priorities of Belarus, stressed the Belarusian Foreign Minister.
Vladimir Makei told media that the meeting had analyzed the progress in fulfilling the agreements reached during the visit of the Belarus president to Armenia in 2013. The sides stated that the agreements are being fulfilled, Belarus-Armenia trade and economic cooperation grows, interaction in the humanitarian sphere and political contacts advances.
The ministers agreed that the dynamics of the bilateral cooperation is rather high yet there are many untapped reserves to utilize the entire potential of cooperation.
During the talks the Belarusian and Armenian foreign ministers stated that their views on the ongoing international events coincide and agreed to support each other. The two ministers noted that Belarus and Armenia productively cooperate within the framework of various international organizations.
Besides, at the meeting the sides reached an agreement on concrete avenues of cooperation in culture and the humanitarian sphere as a whole.
Vladimir Makei stated he had had a substantive conversation with his Armenian counterpart. The conversation will be a serious basis for bolstering further bilateral cooperation.
In turn, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian remarked that during the talks they had discussed a large number of matters concerning bilateral, interregional, and international agendas. The sides discussed integration processes, the fulfillment of the roadmap for Armenia to join the Customs Union. Cooperation between regions was also mentioned. According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, joint initiatives at the interregional level make a serious contribution to interstate relations.
Edward Nalbandian invited Vladimir Makei to visit Armenia. The invitation was accepted.
The ministers signed a plan for consultations between the two ministries of foreign affairs in 2014-2015.
