Penza Oblast suggests joint projects in light industry, road construction to Belarus

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – Penza Oblast of Russia has invited Belarus to implement joint projects in furniture making, light industry and road construction, Penza Oblast Governor Vasily Bochkarev said as he met with President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on 11 April, BelTA has learnt.

The governor confirmed the interest in ramping up manufacturing cooperation with Belarus. He informed that 80% of elevators used in Penza Oblast were made in Mogilev. “We have set up an assembly factory together and are about to start assembling elevators in Penza, with most of the component parts supplied by the Mogilev-based company,” Vasily Bochkarev said.

“We can learn many things from you in road construction. You can do certain things better than our road construction companies. Actually this is a problem of not only Penza, but also our neighboring regions,” Vasily Bochkarev said. In this connection, he suggested analyzing cooperation prospects in this field and involving businessmen in joint projects.

“There is one more area where we can launch a joint project. This is furniture making and garment production. Footwear production is also a promising cooperation avenue. Furniture and garment clusters are doing well in Penza; we could set up a joint venture and a trading house to promote these goods not only in Russia and Belarus, but also in other CIS member states and beyond,” the Penza Oblast Governor said.

Vasily Bochkarev praised the technological level of the Belarusian agriculture industry. “The farms we saw yesterday were neat and tidy; these farms are meant for educated people who want to make money. We saw equipment, including devices produced jointly with Dutch companies. This equipment is assembled partly from Belarusian component parts. I could only dream about it, but you have already materialized this dream,” the Penza Oblast Governor said.
