Ostrovsky presents his credentials to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Belarus Ambassador to the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Denmark (on concurrent) Alexander Ostrovsky presented his credentials to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

Alexander Ostrovsky met with the head of Denmark and discussed the state and prospects of the development of the bilateral cooperation.

During his visit to Denmark the Belarusian Ambassador held a number of meetings, including at the Danish Foreign Ministry. Alexander Ostrovsky met with the deputy director of the department for the European neighborhood policy and the head of the section for the cooperation with Eastern European countries and talked over the Belarusian-Danish political, trade, economic, humanitarian, and cultural cooperation. The sides noted the willingness to maintain the relations with the EU and develop a dialogue with Brussels and the EU member states based on mutual respect. They also discussed the ways of promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation and the possibility of resuming the regular bilateral consultations between the foreign ministries of the two states.

Alexander Ostrovsky also met with Head of the Economic Department at the Danish Foreign Ministry Svend Olling. The sides exchanged views on the state and prospects of the Belarus-Denmark trade, economic, and investment cooperation. They agreed that the countries should intensify their efforts in order to increase the volume of the bilateral trade and inform the Danish businessmen about business opportunities in Belarus. The sides also thoroughly discussed the prospects of cooperation in the main economic sectors such as agriculture, innovations, and power engineering. They agreed to hold a seminar with the participation of the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Denmark and businessmen of the two countries in Copenhagen in early 2015 and to organize a visit of the representatives of Danish companies and the Confederation of Danish Industry to Belarus in 2015.

Besides, Alexander Ostrovsky met with the representatives of the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), the board of directors of the energy cluster, potential investors interested in the Belarusian agricultural sector, and heads of the companies already operating in Belarus.

Ambassador Alexander Ostrovsky also attended the first session of the Danish-Belarusian business association created in October 2014. The session discussed the ways to attract the Danish companies to Belarus. The participants also agreed on the organization of the events with the participation of Belarusian and Danish businessmen in Copenhagen and Minsk in 2015.
