Opinion poll: Lukashenko is most popular foreign leader in Ukraine

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) - Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is the most popular foreign leader among Ukrainians. The opinion poll conducted by the Sociological Group Rating puts the president’s approval rating at 66%, with 15% disapproving, BelTA learned from the website of the Sociological Group Rating.

According to the information available on its website, 60% of the polled said they approved of Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, 17% disapproved. Polish President Andrzej Duda got a 48% approval rating among the Ukrainians, with 9% disapproving, 18% not aware of such politician, and 27% hesitating to answer. Some 39% of the polled said they approved of French President Emmanuel Macron, 17% disapproved of him, 15% did not know the politician, and 29% hesitated to answer. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau got the following numbers: 38% were positive, 6% - negative, 30% did not know the politician, and 30% found it difficult to answer. The poll showed that 33% of Ukrainians approved of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 11% disapproved, 27% did not know the politician, and 30% hesitated to answer. U.S. President Donald Trump enjoys a 30% approval rating among Ukrainians, with 42% disapproving, and 25% hesitating to answer. Some 28% of Ukrainian respondents said they approved of Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, 20% disapproved, 22% did not know the politician, and 30% hesitated to answer.

Partaking in the opinion poll were Ukrainians aged 18 and over. The number of respondents was 3,000. The sample was representative in terms of age, gender, region, and settlement type. The survey was conducted as a personal interview (face-to-face) on 29 October – 4 November 2019. 

Sociological Group Rating (Rating Group Ukraine) was established in 2008 as a non-governmental independent research organization specializing in all kinds of sociological research. The organization annually holds about 100,000 interviews and 100 focus group surveys. Its customers are political parties, authorities, public organizations, media, and business.
