MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – The foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia are not holding talks over the introduction of a common visa, Spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik told reporters on 11 September, BelTA has learned.
“No talks are underway regarding any new Belarus-Russia agreements on this matter,” Dmitry Mironchik said.
Speaking about ways to ease travel formalities for tourists and businessmen, Dmitry Mironchik noted that the Belarusian side has been working on it consistently and quite successfully, including together with Russian counterparts. To illustrate his point, he mentioned joint efforts to ease travels for numerous foreign ice hockey fans who came to Minsk for the world championship.
Dmitry Mironchik reminded that the Belarus-Turkey agreement on mutual visa-free travels came into force this year. The work on a similar agreement with Israel is nearing completion. The work is in progress on a number of other agreements on easing visa formalities.
“Having a high level of integration Belarus and Russia conduct a coordinated visa policy. We are constantly working to streamline our joint efforts. However, mass media remembers about these efforts only in the event of “high-profile” travel bans for politicians and other personalities who did not have a friendly attitude to our countries, to put it mildly,” the Spokesperson noted.
