Negotiations between Lukashenko, Yanukovych scheduled for 18 June

KYIV, 12 June (UKRINFORM - BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is expected to visit Kyiv on Tuesday, 18 June, the news agency UKRINFORM learned from First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Alexander Mikhnevich.

“Officially the presidents have not met for about three years, although unofficial meetings have been frequent, including at the time of a football match on 1 July 2012. Many current positive matters to discuss have been accumulated,” said Alexander Mikhnevich.

According to the official, among other things the presidents of Ukraine and Belarus will discuss trade and economic cooperation. “Instead of simply buying and selling we establish joint ventures. We vigorously invite Ukrainian business to Belarus – to pharmaceutics, power engineering, and so on. It is these topics, the hindrances that stand in the way that the presidents will talk about in order to remove them,” said Alexander Mikhnevich.

Apart from that, in his words, the presidents will also touch upon cultural cooperation. “I believe it is necessary to stage Belarus Days in Ukraine and Ukraine Days in Minsk on a large scale. Certainly, the presidents have to make their decision on that,” said the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus.

The press service of the Belarusian head of state told BelTA that negotiations between the two presidents are indeed scheduled for 18 June.
