Minsk to host conference on Belarus-EU cooperation prospects

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – An international conference “European Union and the Republic of Belarus: Cooperation Prospects” will take place at the Belarusian State University (BSU) in Minsk on 5 June, BelTA learnt from head of the press service of the BSU media center Yelena Martsulevich.

“The forum will be organized as part of the EU’s Jean Monnet program. Partaking in the conference will be over 140 experts and specialists in European integration, scientists and teachers from Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, Romania,” the head of the press service said.

The opening ceremony will be attended by BSU First Pro-Rector Mikhail Zhuravkov, Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Ambassador Maira Mora, head of the department of pan-European cooperation of the Foreign Ministry Denis Sidorenko, representatives of the diplomatic representations of foreign states in Belarus.

The conference will feature four workshops: the EU Foreign Policy, the EU Social and Economic Policy, Legal Regulation of the European Integration, and Education and Culture in the EU. The workshops will be held at the BSU Department of International Relations.

According to Yelena Martsulevich, the working languages at the international forum will be Russian and English.

The results of the forum will be published in a collection of reports of the conference participants and a catalogue of Belarusian specialists in European research.

The Jean Monnet program was instituted by the European University Council with a view of allocating grants to universities and teachers to stimulate studies and research in the European integration. The selection of projects for financial support is held in the form of annual competitions instituted by the European Commission for Education and Culture.
