Minsk city takes measures to rule out corruption

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – The Minsk City Executive Committee has taken measures to rule out corruption during the signing of investment contracts. The information was released by Mr Nikolai Ladutko, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, BelTA has learned.

According to the Minsk mayor, the city has introduced one-stop procedures for working with investors. The novelties include the establishment of an advisory board for investment activities. It is a recommendatory body in charge of preliminary information and consultations about what the first steps and consequent steps have to be made to make up a package of documents. Teleconferencing has been enabled with administrations of the city’s district and structural units involved in the process.

“Investment work has been improved in order to rule out possible corruption manifestations on the part of the staff. Control at all the paperwork stages has been beefed up. Unnecessary contacts of applicants with officials have been reduced,” said Nikolai Ladutko.

In his words, last year Minsk attracted over $600 million in net foreign direct investments and plans to attract about $1 billion in FDI this year. About 160 investment contracts have been signed, roughly 16 ones have been terminated, with grievances for the failure to honor obligations sent to companies in 40 cases.

The Minsk mayor said he was confident that an absolute majority of the officials of the Minsk City Executive Committee, its structural divisions and the administrations of city districts are responsible and decent people.
