Mijatovic’s visit to Belarus viewed as important for restoring trust between Belarus, OSCE

MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei views the visit of OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic as important for restoring trust between Belarus and the OSCE. The announcement was made at the meeting between Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic on 5 June.

Vladimir Makei stressed that Belarus had not ceased cooperation with the OSCE Office. “You know our issues in the relations with the EU. However, despite all the problems, we are ready for cooperation with your office,” he said.

The minister took note of the busy program of Dunja Mijatovic’s visit to Belarus, which helped her learn more about the situation in the country. “You have already spent three days here, have met various people, heard different opinions. Now you have an opportunity to assess the situation in Belarus,” he said.

Vladimir Makei added that the parties have enough issues for discussion.

In turn, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media thanked the Belarusian side for openness. “Every door has been opened to me. It is important for me to hear all the voices and opinions,” she noted.
