Matviyenko to attend first Belarus-Russia regional forum in Minsk

MOSCOW, 5 June (BelTA) – Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko will lead a delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia to Minsk for the first Belarus-Russia regional forum on 5-6 June, BelTA learnt from the press service of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament.

Prior to the trip, Valentina Matviyenko noted that Belarus is Russia’s old and reliable partner. “Belarusian products enjoy high popularity among Russians thanks to optimal value for money,” she told reporters.

According to the Speaker, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the Union State Treaty. “Over the period we have made great headway in all-round cooperation,” she said noting that the Belarusian-Russian cooperation has become a driving force of the Eurasian integration. “The experience gained in the development of the Union State successfully finds its application in the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union. Further advancement of integration processes will open new opportunities for the development of our countries and make our economies even more interrelated,” Valentina Matviyenko is confident.

At the forthcoming forum Belarusian and Russian MPs, the authorities of the Eurasian Economic Commission, heads of government bodies and regions of Belarus and Russia, businessmen will discuss expansion of direct contacts. The forum will highlight efficient development of the agricultural sectors of the two countries as the pivotal condition for food security of the Union State.
