Makei, Kneissl open new office of Austrian embassy in Minsk

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Austrian Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Karin Kneissl solemnly opened the new office of the Austrian Embassy in Belarus on 15 January, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is keen on promoting close relations with Austria. We really view Austria as an important partner in politics, economy and other fields,” Vladimir Makei said.

The Belarusian foreign minister thanked Austria for its commitment to closer cooperation with Belarus. He emphasized the importance of opening the new embassy office that will also house Austria’s economic representative office. “Any relocation is a special event, a new milestone and new hopes. I think that in this case the relocation also means new expectations in bilateral relations,” Vladimir Makei added.

He wished the Austrian diplomats success and fulfillment of new ideas aimed at expanding cooperation with Belarus.

For her part, Karin Kneissl noted that she was happy to participate in the opening ceremony of the new office of the Austrian Embassy in Belarus. She extended a warm welcome to Austrian Honorary Consul in Belarus Sergei Kostyuchenko, Romanian Ambassador in Belarus Viorel Mosanu (in light of the Romanian Presidency in the EU) and dean of the diplomatic corps of Palestine in Belarus Dr. Khaled Arikat. The ceremony was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Austria Alena Kupchyna.

The high Austrian guest recalled that the Austrian Embassy opened in Minsk in 2016. Since then the bilateral relations have gained new momentum. The minister expressed confidence that the embassy will further enhance the interaction between Belarus and Austria.
