MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – The agreement on easing visa regulations with the European Union should be signed on equal footing, Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told reporters on 19 September, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Makei informed that the first consultations had already been held with European experts. The parties discussed two agreements – one on easing visa formalities and the other on readmission. Principled approaches to these matters have been developed. Belarus is ready to continue consultations. According to the minister, at present the European Union is considering Belarus’ suggestions.
“Even if these agreements are signed, they should be signed on equal footing, the same way as the EU signed similar documents with Moldova and Georgia,” the Belarusian Foreign Minister noted.
In his view, one should not set a specific timeframe for signing the documents, but to conduct thorough expert examination. Vladimir Makei informed that the next round of visa talks with the EU will take place before the end of the year.
