MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – The footwear industry should stay up-to-date, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said during a visit to the Minsk Leather Production Association in Gatovo on 9 September, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko said that footwear companies are undergoing upgrade following the suit of the tanneries. Due to the upgrade project Belarus will have advanced, modern-day companies producing footwear.
"We should not ruin the domestic industry. Goods from China are a good thing. But we need to produce our own. And we can do it,” the President said.
"We should support our own industry. We should make people proud of locally-made footwear and clothing," he said.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that in October Vitebsk will host a meeting to review the state of affairs in the footwear industry, the progress in the projects to ramp up the output and upgrade production facilities.
