Lukashenko tours scientific achievements expo at NASBMINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Over 200 breakthrough solutions were on display at the science exhibition of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB). Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held a session with Belarus’ leading scientists at the NASB on 31 March, BelTA has learnt.

Alexander Lukashenko toured the exposition that showcased the achievements of the National Academy of Sciences and other ministries, agencies and organizations. These achievements include novel solutions in the space industry, pharmaceutics, medicine, chemistry, agriculture.

In particular, the head of state was informed about the solutions associated with the Belarusian remote earth sensing system. The satellite is now fulfilling orders for 11 ministries. Alexander Lukashenko was informed that contracts that have been signed by now cover 25% of the investments in the development of the satellite.

The head of state was also informed about Belarusian know-how in the field of new materials and high-tech production.

Lukashenko tours scientific achievements expo at NASBThe latest solutions were presented by Peleng, Institute for Nature Management, Institute of Microbiology, Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the NASB, Center of Analytical and Genetic Engineering Research, Center of Genome Biotechnologies, the National Research Center for Blood Transfusion and Medical Biotechnology and other organizations. Belarusian scientists showcased their achievements in cell technologies used in regenerative medicine. For example, now stem cells are used in Belarus to treat trophic ulcers. Stem cells are also used in arthrology, cardiology, otolaryngology and neurology.

Alexander Lukashenko asked about the progress in fulfilling the import substitution tasks in pharmaceutics. One of the tasks is to increase the market share of domestic drugs to 50% and higher by 2015.

The President was also shown a model of an unmanned aerial vehicle.
