Lukashenko: Salaries in Belarus are relatively low, but services are cheap

Lukashenko: Salaries in Belarus are relatively low, but services are cheapMINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Salaries in Belarus are relatively low, but services are cheap, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus said at the press conference for the Russian regional mass media on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

The head of state cited statistical data regarding the average salaries in Russia and Belarus and compared these figures with the cost of services. For example, the average salary of Belarusian workers is close to $400 in equivalent, it is 1.5 times higher in Russia. Utility bills are much lower in Belarus than in Russia, Ukraine, and European countries. In particular, 1m3 of water costs 15 cents in equivalent in Minsk (it costs even less in Belarusian regions), 53 cents in Moscow, 41 cents in St. Petersburg, 36 cents in Smolensk, 27 cents in Kiev, $2.5 in Berlin. The same can be said about the prices for other utility services such as water disposal, hot water supply, heat supply, technical maintenance, elevator maintenance. Besides, Belarus has free education and healthcare.

“People can be paid twice as much, but then they will pay more for certain services,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
