Lukashenko: No time for Belarus and Russia to argue over minor issues

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – In the face of new challenges Belarus and Russia must be united as never before and should resolve all emerging disputes as partners. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement at the press conference held on 17 October for representatives of Russian regional mass media, BelTA has learned.

“It is not the time to ‘pinch’ each other over minor issues, unearthing old grievances or bringing more pressure into our relations using far-fetched pretexts,” noted the Belarusian leader.

“You see perfectly well what is going on on the planet these days. The planet is shaken by civil strife and armed conflicts. These are the results of the implementation of the controlled chaos strategy that considerably damage many countries on various continents, unfortunately, including Europe. We also know who control this chaos, who stir up trouble and resolve their own problems by destabilizing huge regions and setting nations against other nations,” said the Belarusian head of state.

“I am confident that in this complicated time Belarusians and Russians have to be together. Belarusians and Russians have to be stronger and shouldn’t be ashamed of defending their economic and political interests together. Our nations should live in agreement,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko.

In his opinion, the lessons taught by the Great Patriotic War deliver the same message. The 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War will be celebrated on 9 May 2015. “We should not forget that only thanks to the unity of our nations we managed to hold the line against the Nazi horde, destroyed the enemy in its lair and freed Europe, saved the entire world from Nazism, the entire mankind from enslavement. Let me emphasize it once more we will be strong if we stand united!” said the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that Belarus honors commitments to Russia within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Customs Union, the Single Economic Space, and the Collective Security Treaty Organization. “And together we adequately respond to the rising activity of our adversaries near our borders,” he said.
