Lukashenko: No reasons not to run for the presidential office if I stay healthy

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – There are no reasons not to participate in the presidential election campaign if there are no problems with health. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement at the press conference held on 17 October for representatives of Russian regional mass media, who took part in a traditional media tour of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“If the election was scheduled for tomorrow, then yes, I would participate. What happens in a year, honestly speaking, I hope the world will not be turned upside down, with Belarus ending somewhere at the bottom… But if everything is fine and I am healthy, then I will have no reasons not to participate in the election campaign,” said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that after 21 years of working as the president of the country, he will be calm if another candidate wins the race. “If they don’t vote for me, it is good, I will still live my life. If my health stays the way it is now, I will live a long life, may pursue some activity. I may even go for some rest if I can,” he said.

The Belarus President reminded about his recent promise not to hold the election too early. “I’ve heard suggestions to hold the election in March, but it would be unfair,” he said. According to Alexander Lukashenko, regardless of the turn of events the presidential election in Belarus will take place in October-November 2015.
