Lukashenko meets with Speaker of Moldovan Parliament

CHISINAU, 25 September (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Corman and leaders of parliamentary factions on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

The Speaker of Moldova’s Parliament expressed hope that the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Moldova will give an impetus to the development of bilateral relations. “Our relations have deep roots. We felt the warm attitude of the Belarusians to the people of Moldova; we have the same feelings to you,” he said.

Igor Corman stressed that Moldova is interested in the association with the European Union. “However, we are eager not only to preserve, but also to expand our relations with Eastern partners,” he stressed.

The Speaker expressed confidence that the association agreement with the EU is not in conflict with the free trade agreement with the CIS. “Even if there are some difficulties, sanctions imposed by the Russian Federation today, in the future we will do our best to find ways to overcome this complicated period. We should use all the tools that will help us develop our country,” he noted. Igor Corman stressed that the relations between Belarus and Moldova are a good example of how cooperation is to be built.

“I think that we have all preconditions to be optimistic about the future of our bilateral relations,” the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament said.
