MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent greetings to Ireland President Michael D. Higgins as the country celebrates St. Patrick’s Day on 17 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The head of state said that the two countries enjoy friendly and trust-based interstate and human relations.
The president expressed gratitude to Irish public associations and individuals for their help in mitigating the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident, developing various contacts with the Chernobyl-hit regions of Belarus.
“I hope that active humanitarian cooperation will continue the expansion of cooperation in different sectors,” the message of greetings runs.
Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Michael D. Higgins strong health and every success in politics, and also peace and wellbeing to the people of Ireland.
