Lukashenko: Integration projects should bring real benefits to nations

Lukashenko: Integration projects should bring real benefits to nationsMINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Integration projects should bring real benefits to nations. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement on 28 October as he met with heads of the government delegations of the Eurasian Economic Union and CIS member states, BelTA has learned.

The head of state underlined that the agenda of the forthcoming session of the CIS Heads of Government Council looked extensive. “Apart from the items to build up on decisions of the Bishkek summit the agenda contains a large block of manufacturing and economic affairs including the implementation of the free trade zone agreement. The protection of intellectual property and consumer rights is mentioned as well as cooperation in transport and humanitarian affairs,” remarked the President.

In his opinion, the fact once again confirms that an inexhaustible number of cooperation areas can be found in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Reaching the end result is what matters.

The head of state said that the modernization of the Commonwealth of Independent States is still an open topic. “It might be a good idea to look at the legal foundation of the Commonwealth of Independent States as well,” believes Alexander Lukashenko. “Over the course of 25 years we signed an unimaginable number of decisions, treaties, and agreements. Are all of them up to date? Do we need all of them? An analysis is in order. As a result, we should see a truly contemporary, respected, and active organization, participation in which will meet interests of our countries.”

“During Russia’s presidency in 2017 I would very much like us to get clear answers to the questions: what did the integration efforts try to achieve all these years and what is the final goal? Because like before we bet nearly everything and believe that a lot will depend on the Russian Federation,” said Alexander Lukashenko.Lukashenko: Integration projects should bring real benefits to nations
