Lukashenko insists upon strict compliance with all agreements in EEU

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – It is crucially important to ensure the strict compliance with all the agreements in the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told a press conference for Russian regional mass media, BelTA has learned.

"It is vital that all agreements are strictly enforced. Otherwise, we can lose trust within our union and damage its appeal for other candidates for the membership in the EEU,” the Belarusian leader said.

"Frankly speaking, I would not want this to happen," said Alexander Lukashenko.

According to the President of Belarus, although the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty comes into effect soon, the Union State of Belarus and Russia should not be neglected. "Like it or not, but we have not yet reached this depth of integration either in the Customs Union, the Single Economic Space, and in the Eurasian Economic Union which will become operational on 1 January 2015," said the Belarusian head of state. Alexander Lukashenko thinks the Union State is a truly unique integration association in the post-Soviet space which ensures the equality of social rights of citizens of the two countries.

"We have made a huge step forward in the Eurasian integration together with our partners, Russia and Kazakhstan. But still we remain at the beginning of a long journey. How this journey is successful, you will see, I think, in the near future. A number of sensitive issues in mutual trade have been postponed or are being addressed at the level of bilateral relations with Russia. First of all these are the issues related to energy and movement of capital,” said the Belarusian leader.
