Lukashenko in favor of modern weaponry manufacturing in Belarus

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – It is necessary to develop the production of modern weapons in Belarus. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during an open dialogue with mass media on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

“We work hard to allow Belarus to have its own weapons. At present the bulk of the weapons used by our army are made in Russia. We only make some weapon components: electronics, optics, and some other ones. We have to have good weapons to discourage future aggressors from launching a war against Belarus. We will have such systems in several months. We don’t want to wage wars and are not preparing for a war. But we have to keep our powder dry,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state also remarked that Belarusian specialists study all the military conflicts that happen across the globe and use the conclusions to reform the army. “We study all the conflicts in the world and have reformatted our army three times. We have decided that we need mobile, well-armed, well-trained military units. If necessary, they should be ready to deploy in Brest today and in Vitebsk tomorrow. We have made the conclusion after studying recent military conflicts,” he said.
