Lukashenko expresses condolences to Turkey President over terrorist attack victims

MINSK, 1 January (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has expressed condolences to Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, families and friends of the victims of the terrorist attack in Istanbul, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state noted that it is with huge pain that people in Belarus have learned the news about the deathly terrorist attack in Istanbul on New Year’s Eve. “We are shocked by the cynicism and cruelty of this heinous crime,” the message of condolences reads.

“Killing people and intimidation of the society cannot be the instruments for achieving any goals. The events in Istanbul prove that there is no place for radical groupings and their ideology in the civilized society. Such crimes require resolute responses and solidarity,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

He assured that Belarus was and will be fighting on terrorism together with Turkey.

It was reported that 39 people, including 16 foreign citizens, were killed in the night club shooting in Istanbul. About 70 people were taken to hospitals. The terrorist attack was committed by unknown criminals wearing Santa costumes. The night club was packed with as many as 700 or 800 people at the time.
