Lukashenko denies a possibility of war between Belarus and Russia

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said he cannot imagine a war happening between Belarus and Russia. "This does not fit in my head why Russians would be fighting Russians? When some begin to caution me this way or say that after the Crimea Putin will come to Belarus, I just cannot imagine this happening. Well, how do you see Russian people coming to Belarus to fight...,” Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the meeting with journalists on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

“We need to calm down, throw away all these mean thoughts out of our heads. We have too many other problems that we must solve,” said the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko added that some people consider the Belarusian land part of Russian territory. "Belarus is a sovereign and independent state. No one has ever brought any claims towards us. We have always been hospitable to everyone, but will make anyone who argues that there was no such state before respect our sovereignty and independence. We will not give away our lands to anyone. This is my task. No matter how hard and difficult it is, I will solve it. Behind my back are hundreds of thousands of people, armed people," stressed the President.
