Lukashenko calls for tougher measures against drug abuse

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has urged to toughen the measures against drug addiction in the country. He emphasized the importance of the problem at the seminar involving students, professors, and graduates of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“My agenda for the near future includes the discussion of the problems of substance abuse. We will toughen the laws and punishment,” the head of state noted.

Alexander Lukashenko believes that it is impossible to solve all the problems by punitive measures. “Meanwhile, the family and school have been underperforming in this regard,” the President said. He is convinced that schools should hold as many preventive events as possible, show children films about the damage caused by smoking and substance abuse. Absolutely all the measures should be used to prevent their spread.

One of the participants of the seminar suggested that schools should start teaching children anatomy earlier. Thus, students will learn about the human anatomy not in high school but at an earlier age, and, consequently, will know about the irreversible effects, for example, of spice abuse.

The seminar showed that teachers are also deeply concerned about this problem.
