Lukashenko calls for closer economic ties with Turkey, Iraq

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – There is a need to intensify trade and economic relations with Turkey and Iraq, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he made new appointments on 3 December, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

The head of state stressed that the cooperation with Turkey and Iraq is an important area of work. In his words, Iraq shows an increased interest in Belarus. Belarus receives more and more cooperation proposals from Iraqi businessmen and politicians. Alexander Lukashenko noted that very soon this country would start its recovery. That means it is high time Belarus used the chance to offer a wide assortment of its products.

Addressing Andrei Savinykh who has been appointed head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Turkey and Iraq, the Belarusian leader emphasized that Iraq “should not be considered a secondary activity”. This area should be actively developed not only by the Ambassador but also government officials and business managers.

As for Turkey, the President believes the trade and economic relations with the country need a boost. “It is excuseless to have such relations with Turkey. Everything goes normal in what concerns politics while economy, trade and economic cooperation are no good at all. Turkey has been recently forthcoming with Belarus. We need to use it more actively,” the head of state said. Alexander Lukashenko also pointed to the relative proximity of the country to Belarus. In his words, there should be no problems with the delivery of Belarusian goods there.
