Lukashenko: Belarus has never made unrealistic promises to Western partners

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – Belarus has never made unrealistic promises to Western partners and will not make them in the future, President Alexander Lukashenko said as he heard out a report of Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 8 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that Belarus always honestly works with partners in the international arena in spite of any challenges and difficulties. “Everybody understands that we keep our word. We do not promise anything we are not sure we can do,” the President stressed.

Speaking about the development of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, the head of state remarked: “If they support Belarus we will be grateful. If not there’s no big deal.”

“But we need to talk to them taking into account our position and our promises,” Alexander Lukashenko added and expressed confidence that the IMF will understand this position. The President underlined that the IMF does not make unclear or unnecessary proposals to Belarus. “We will fulfill their proposals in spite of all possible difficulties,” the head of state concluded.
