MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko met with U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Belarus Jeffrey Giauque in Minsk on 28 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The parties discussed the prospects for further development of Belarus-U.S. dialogue,” the ministry said.
As it has been reported, Oleg Kravchenko was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United States on 20 July. The post remained vacant for 12 years. Minsk and Washington announced the decision to reinstate ambassadors in September 2019 when Aleksandr Lukashenko met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale. Back then David Hale said: “Today is a historic moment in American-Belarusian relations. I am glad to participate in the declaration of our readiness to exchange ambassadors as the next step in normalizing our relations.”
Oleg Kravchenko plans to travel to the United States in August. “A lot will depend on your work. We will need support and assistance from the United States of America, especially in terms of finances during this pandemic time,” the president said as he appointed Oleg Kravchenko ambassador of Belarus to the United States.
