Kazakhstan president arrives in Belarus to take part in summits

Nursultan Nazarbayev arrives in Belarus MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has arrived in Belarus for the sake of taking part in the summits, BelTA has learned.

Nursultan Nazarbayev is expected to take part in sessions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of heads of state and the CIS Heads of State Council in Minsk on 24-25 October.

BelTA reported earlier that the development of integration and the progress on the draft treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union will be the key items on the agenda of the session on 24 October. Apart from that, participants of the session are expected to discuss matters concerning the model law on competition, the procedure for transporting narcotic substances and psychotropic substances in the Customs Union, the execution of the Eurasian Economic Commission budget, and several other topics.

The 25 October session of the CIS Heads of State Council will be the key event within the framework of Belarus’ CIS presidency in 2013. Belarus’ presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States follows the motto “Integration for the benefit of people: stronger neighborly ties, the development of economic cooperation, assistance for improving the accessibility of green technologies, the expansion of the dialogue of cultures”. Over 70 events of economic, ecological, humanitarian, and interregional nature are part of the plan to implement Belarus’ CIS presidency in 2013.

The agenda of the summit includes 14 items that cover various aspects of cooperation starting with humanitarian cooperation and ending with security and economic relations.

Belarus and Kazakhstan maintain an active political dialogue at all levels and are strategic partners. The sides productively cooperate in international organizations, including the United Nations Organization, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

In 2012 Belarus-Kazakhstan trade rose by 14.5% from 2011 to $924.8 million. Belarus’ major exports are agricultural machines, tractors, tires, milk and dairy products, furniture, trucks, goods made of wood, meat and meat products, sugar, plastic products, medications.

As many as 13 joint assembly projects are in their active implementation phase in Kazakhstan.

During the official visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Kazakhstan in October 2013 the sides signed a plan of joint actions in order to implement the Belarus-Kazakhstan economic cooperation program for 2009-2016. The plan is a roadmap designed to guide the advancement of bilateral trade and economic cooperation in 2014-2016.
