MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – Italian MPs have thanked the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus for support, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova on 2 April.

The Council of the Republic offered support to Italian colleagues the other day. “Today we’ve received a grateful answer from them. They write that in situations like today’s parliamentarians of all countries should become even more united,” the senator said. She stressed the importance of interparliamentary cooperation and pointed out that contacts and effective work had been established with many countries in this regard.

Talking to reporters, Natalya Kochanova outlined the main tasks the senators will have to accomplish during the spring session. In particular, the development of bills should be organized in a way as to produce effective and promising legislation that does not need to be amended after a short period of time.

The senate’s priorities include work with people in various formats: personal meetings, meetings with labor collectives. “It is very important to know the situation at the local level. We should use it in our work on legislative proposals,” the speaker of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament noted. Natalya Kochanova also spoke at length about work with youth. The formation of the Youth Council under the aegis of the Belarusian parliament is nearly finished. The council’s first session will take place soon. During the session young MPs will pass rules and regulations on the council’s work and will set up working bodies.

Apart from that, Natalya Kochanova said she believes that Belarusian senators should more actively work with mass media. “I would like members of the Council of the Republic to more actively work with regional mass media and national ones in order to get the message about problems in the regions and decisions made by the Council of the Republic across to people,” she said.
