Government discusses Belarus’ 2014 social, economic targets

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – The current economic situation and the country’s economic performance in 2013, the draft projections of social and economic development of Belarus for 2014, draft budget and monetary policy guidelines and measures to develop monetary system were discussed at a government session chaired by Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich on 30 August, BelTA has learnt.

The session worked out additional measures aimed at increasing and diversifying export, clearing backlogs, optimizing budget expenses and raising additional revenue to modernize the economy, including foreign direct investment. Additional sources of inflow of foreign currency in 2013-2014 and measures to optimize import were also outlined.

As it was noted, the decisions will help strengthen the economic and energy security of Belarus.

“This is not the first time that we have discussed the 2014 targets, and the action plan to achieve them,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. On 30 August the session reviewed the documents that were finalized following the government session on 23 July. Back then, it was agreed that all regional authorities, the Minsk City Council Hall, the ministries, committees and other state bodies, even those which are not part of the Council of Ministers system, would join the effort and share their vision on next year’s targets.

“The major goal is to identify the ways to meet the projected targets rather than revise some figures,” Mikhail Myasnikovich underlined.

Attending the government session were top officials, members of the Council of Ministers, Chairmen of the Oblast Executive Committees and Minsk City Council and directors of state organizations under the government.
