Eurasian Economic Union Treaty in for ratification this autumn

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Parliaments of the Customs Union member states will ratify the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty during the autumn session. The statement was made by Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the commission for CIS affairs, Eurasian integration, and relations with compatriots of the Russian State Duma, chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

The treaty will be ratified synchronously on the same day during the autumn session, said Leonid Slutsky. “I think the day when we can proudly say that we live in the Eurasian Economic Union is not far,” he added.

Asked about restrictions and exemptions left in the treaty, the parliamentarian remarked that the combination of developed economies into such a powerful regional economic block entails certain development diseases and problems with exemptions and restrictions cannot be resolved right away.

In the future the Eurasian Economic Union will acquire a parliamentary dimension and a full-value Eurasian parliament. Later on it will acquire the security dimension in the form of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Apart from that, the formation of a universal information space and the emergence of the 24/7 news channel Eurasia 24 are possible. The news channel has been suggested by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev. All of it will happen in the near future, stressed Leonid Slutsky.

The presidents of Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan signed the treaty to establish the Eurasian Economic Union in Astana on 29 May 2014.
