Heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations are on a visit to Gomel Oblast GOMEL, 13 September (BelTA) – The European Union is ready to provide financial assistance to the development of initiatives in Chernobyl-hit regions, head of the European Union Delegation in Belarus Maira Mora told BelTA.

“The Belarusian state has done a lot to provide normal living standards to people from the Chernobyl-hit regions. The European Union also provides support, including financing of projects to improve living standards of the people, develop the polluted territories. The last projects were implemented in 2010. Today in the implementation of new initiatives I think we can also focus on other areas, for instance, scientific and research projects,” Maira Mora noted.

“During the visit of Chernobyl-hit regions in Gomel Oblast on 12 September we saw that over the last six years a lot had been done there to improve the situation. If earlier low mood prevailed in the majority of people, today we can say there is future, positive energy there. The population of these regions is very active and is ready to implement new projects together with us in various areas, including culture, business, economic development of the regions,” the head of the European Union Delegation in Belarus added.

Heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations are on a visit to Gomel Oblast on 12-13 September. On 12 September the foreign guests paid a visit to Khoiniki District. On 13 September they visited Loyev to meet the Gomel authorities.
