MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Belarus suggests setting up a regional IT school of the Eastern Partnership Initiative in Minsk. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the relevant statement during the videoconference of the ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Initiative participating countries on 11 June, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei said: “We are ready to cooperate openly and transparently with European institutions. Technological innovations deserve to be included into all spheres of cooperation of the Eastern Partnership Initiative. Several days ago Belarus spread its proposal about setting up an IT school of the Eastern Partnership in Minsk in order to improve the qualification of young people in partner states in the area of digital technologies. I hope you could support our proposal.”

Vladimir Makei also described green economy as an important sphere of cooperation. “At the same time we should try to prevent the European green agreement from putting up trade barriers or ousting companies of partners from the European Union market. It is necessary to encourage projects that help substitute oil and natural gas with electricity. Soon after the nuclear power plant in Ostrovets is commissioned, Belarus will expand the usage of electricity in various sectors such as digital mobility while maintaining the highest standards of safety and preservation. Belarus will also remain totally transparent in its nuclear program,” he pointed out.
