MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – The possibility of Belarus’ hosting the Second European Games will be discussed at the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in Minsk on 20-22 October, BelTA has learned.
“Our European partners would like Belarus to host the Second European Games. This matter will be discussed at the EOC General Assembly. Today Minsk has a well-developed sport infrastructure. No one in Europe will question Belarus’ ability to host such a big sport event. There are enough successful examples, such as the 2014 IIHF World Championship, which show that Belarus will cope well with the organization of sport tournaments of different levels. Money is the main issue here. The Second European Games will require huge investments. We need to think everything over,” noted Maksim Ryzhenkov.
The First European Games took place in Baku in June 2015. Partaking in the competitions were more than 5,000 athletes from 50 counties. Belarus won 43 medals, including 10 gold medals.
