Customs services of Belarus and Russia discuss interaction during IIHF WC in Minsk

NOVOPOLOTSK, 26 February (BelTA) - Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation and the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus signed a memorandum of intent on interaction during the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Belarus in order to ensure favorable conditions for the movement of goods across the state border and to ease border crossing rules for individuals in Novopolotsk on 26 February, BelTA learned.

Thus the customs services identified the points of interaction during the period of the sports event which is very important for the country, Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee Alexander Shpilevsky told a press conference. In the near future similar documents will be signed with other Belarus’ neighbors - Poland, Latvia, and Ukraine.

Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Andrei Belyaninov added that the customs services have gained experience of joint work during large-scale international events, for example, the UEFA Euro 2012. The same approaches will be taken in regard to the 2014 IIHF World Championships in Belarus. 

The meeting of the customs services of the Customs Union member states and the meeting of the Customs Committee of the Union State was held in Novopolotsk on 26 February. The meeting focused on a range of issues related to the customs legislation on advance information, information cooperation between the customs services of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, application of the Convention on the International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets in the transportation of cargoes within the Customs Union.
