MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – The prospects for cooperation in peacekeeping between the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the United Nations during Belarus’ presidency of the CSTO have been discussed in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov met with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations El Ghassim Wane as part of his visit to New York. The parties discussed international peacekeeping activities and steps that can be taken to increase Belarus’ participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
Valentin Rybakov also recalled the resolution on cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization recently adopted by the General Assembly. The resolution calls on the two organizations to develop mutually beneficial collaboration in a number of areas, including in peacekeeping operations.
