MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong has come to Minsk, BelTA learned from the Chinese diplomatic mission.

“The ambassador has arrived in Minsk. Given the epidemiological situation and respect for Belarus’ anti-virus measures, he has decided to self-isolate. He will soon begin his work,” the embassy said.

“China has attached great importance to the selection and appointment of a new ambassador to Belarus. An experienced specialist, well familiar with the situation in the region, has been appointed to this important position. Xie Xiaoyong has extensive experience, including diplomatic service not only in Russia and Ukraine but also in the secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He also worked for China’s largest state enterprise - China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC),” the diplomatic mission said.

Belarus and China established diplomatic relations on 20 January 1992. During the visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to China in September 2016, the two leaders signed a joint declaration on the establishment of the highest level of relations of trust-based comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation.
