China President hails Belarus' political stability, economic growth

MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping notes Belarus’ political stability and progressive economic development, according to the article published by SB Belarus Segodnya newspaper on 8 May, BelTA informs.

“Belarus shows political and social stability, progressive development of its economy. We can see how the people’s wellbeing improves and the country’s international positions strengthen. Under Alexander Lukashenko’s leadership the hardworking and wise people of Belarus have been obtaining new success in the state construction. I am happy for the Belarusian people,” the Chinese leader said.

Xi Jinping took note of considerable progress made over 23 years since China and Belarus established diplomatic relations. The two countries reached a comprehensive strategic partnership, developed a five-year program for the development of bilateral relations, set up an intergovernmental committee on cooperation. “We have been strengthening mutual political trust, support and cooperation in all areas. Successful cooperation gives grounds to think that China and Belarus are worth to be real friends and reliable partners. China has already become Belarus’ biggest trading partner in the Asia-Pacific Region. The bilateral trade is on a constant increase. Last year the mutual trade increased by 27.3% despite a difficult global economic situation,” Xi Jinping said.

In his words, as for big joint projects with China, Belarus can be considered one of the country’s most important partners in the Eurasian region. The two countries implement dozens of big projects in communication, transport, energy and infrastructure construction. “We have already have the first results of social and economic importance. It is, first of all, a plant to assemble Geely cars, a construction of the Beijing Hotel in Minsk, a successful reconstruction of Minsk CHP plants. Besides, it includes the construction of three cement production lines, modern electric locomotives from China, and a considerable breakthrough in the implementation of the industrial park project,” the Chinese President said.

Xi Jinping also talked about the Second World War, noting: “Our people know how to appreciate friendship and value brothers in arms.”

The Chinese leader believes that it is necessary to take steps in strengthening cooperation in the international arena, efforts to defend the results of the Second World War and justice in the world policy. “The peoples of China and Belarus that suffered huge losses in WWII will firmly defend the results of the war. China and Belarus, as UN founders, will strengthen cooperation in the United Nations and other international organizations, assist the development of the international order,” he stressed.
