MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – It is necessary to update the curriculums in Belarusian schools and universities while keeping the best accomplishments of the past. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement at the seminar involving students, professors, and graduates of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank on 21 November, BelTA has learned.
The head of state said he was dissatisfied with how his instruction to change university curriculums let alone school curriculums was being fulfilled. “What do we want school students to learn? Half of it is rubbish. Kids absolutely don’t need that in their lives. Therefore, I gave instructions to change the curriculums. Something has been changed but it is not exactly what I want. This is why I often criticize the Education Ministry for our failure to match modern requirements,” said the President.
“It doesn’t mean that our past will be scrapped and something we don’t comprehend yet will be put in place. Or that all the good things from the past will be replaced with something we don’t comprehend yet. It would be dangerous. It may lead us to wrong destinations. But we surely have to adjust to modern life. It hasn’t been done yet,” stressed the head of state.
