Belarusian-Russian Youth Chamber to be set up at Parliamentary Assembly

BRYANSK, 18 December (BelTA) – The Youth Chamber will be set up at the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly (PA), Artem Turov, the chairman of the PA commission for legislation and regulations, told the media on the margins of the 53rd session of Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly (PA) in Russia’s Bryansk on 16 December, BelTA has learned.

The idea of establishing the Youth Chamber was suggested during the 52nd session of the Parliamentary Assembly in June 2017 and supported by Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin. It is expected that the Youth Chamber members will help the Union State MP in regulating the rights and legitimate interests of young people and youth organizations and coordinate interaction between the two countries.

According to Artem Turov, the chamber will be composed of the members of the legislative (representative) bodies of all levels and representatives of the youth parliaments, youth branches of the political parties and organizations, youth movements, organizations and associations. This will help make this chamber a truly effective organization.

“Any such project is aimed at collecting ideas and suggestions, getting feedback from the younger generation, including in the legislative dimension. The integration process in the Union State is in need of such a consultative body,” the chairman of the commission said. He expressed the hope that this move would help strengthen the link between youth organizations and young leaders of the two countries through the prism of the Parliamentary Assembly.

The Youth Chamber will be composed of representatives to be delegated by the parliaments of the two states. It is expected that the chamber will be composed of 40 members, of which 20 will be citizens of Belarus and 20 citizens of Russia. The age limit is from 18 to 35.

The 53rd session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia was held in Bryansk on 16 December. The session reviewed the draft regulation on the youth chamber.
