Belarusian Parliament seeks closer ties with OSCE PA

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) - The Parliament of Belarus is interested in expanding practical interaction with fellow parliamentarians from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Deputy Chairman the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky said as he met with OSCE PA President Ilkka Kanerva, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The parties took note of the active participation of the Belarusian delegation in the work of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. In recent years the assembly has adopted a number of resolutions on current topics initiated by Belarus. It was also emphasized that Belarus is interested in expanding practical interaction with fellow parliamentarians from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on the basis of an open and equal dialogue.

The Belarusian parliamentary delegation is in Geneva to participate in the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly also held bilateral meetings with the heads and members of the parliamentary delegations of the OSCE participating states. For example, meetings were held with the heads of the parliamentary delegations of the CIS countries and also Germany, Slovakia, Finland, Switzerland, Montenegro and the Czech Republic.

The head of the Belarusian delegation, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky had a brief meeting with Swiss President, who is current OSCE Chairman-in-Office Didier Burkhalter. "The Belarusian side welcomed the active efforts of Switzerland in its capacity of the OSCE Presidency in 2014, and expressed its support for the Swiss initiatives aimed at strengthening the security and stability in Europe," the press service noted.

On 4 October Viktor Guminsky participated in the meeting of the OSCE PA Standing Committee, which got acquainted with the current activities of the Parliamentary Assembly, heard the reports of its special representatives, and discussed the preparations for future sessions of the assembly.
