Belarusian Parliament monitors business support efforts amid coronavirus outbreak

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – The parliament is monitoring the preparation of measures to shore up the economy amid the coronavirus outbreak. The progress in this work was reviewed at a meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives on 26 March, BelTA has learned.

According to Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, the Presidium of the Council of Ministers will convene for a meeting today. “The agenda includes a set of measures to ensure the stability of the economy in the wake of the epidemiological situation in the world. The House of Representatives has submitted some proposals for this meeting,” he said and urged the MPs to send additional proposals.

The Speaker added that on 21 March, the Belarusian government approved a comprehensive plan of action to minimize the risk of importing coronavirus and its spreading.

As it has been reported, Belarus is devising the support measures on an industry basis, focusing on specific industries that could potentially suffer from this situation. These include tourism, transport and logistics, catering, hotel business, business, and consumer services.

An individual approach has been suggested for large enterprises. The situation will be reviewed on the case-by-case basis.
