Belarusian, Ecuadorian embassies in Quito, Minsk soon

MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Ecuador are planning to open their embassies in Quito and Minsk in the near future. The agreement was reached at the meeting between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa Delgado in Minsk on 31 October, BelTA has learnt.

According to the President of Ecuador, a new Ambassador of Ecuador to Belarus will be appointed soon. At present the two countries maintain diplomatic contacts through the diplomats based in Caracas and Moscow.

“This will open up wider opportunities for us,” Rafael Correa Delgado said.

In his words, Belarus and Ecuador have already gained some experience of successful cooperation. For instance, the two countries cooperate in oil exploration and extraction and in the transportation sector. “We still have a lot to do and we should move forward faster,” the Ecuadorian leader said.

The President of Ecuador took note of a high level of the Belarusian science and its achievements in the technological area. “We need the knowledge, skills and technology. Ecuador is rich in natural resources. Belarus is known for its value-added industrial products. This makes a good opportunity to increase our mutual trade,” the President of Ecuador said.

“Belarus should become closer to Latin America and Latin America should learn more about Belarus,” Rafael Correa Delgado added.
