Belarus welcomes adjusted implementation of Eastern Partnership Initiative

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei positively evaluates the adjusted implementation of the Eastern Partnership Initiative taking into account decisions made by the Eastern Partnership Initiative’s summit in Riga in 2015 and bearing in mind the revised European neighborhood policy. The press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the relevant statement after Vladimir Makei took part in the seventh annual meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states in Brussels, Belgium on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

Speaking during the plenary session of the ministerial meeting, Vladimir Makei outlined Belarus’ stance on further development of the Eastern Partnership Initiative and Belarus’ relations with the European Union. In particular, the Minister spoke in positive terms about the corrected realization of the Eastern Partnership Initiative taking into account decisions made by the Eastern Partnership Initiative’s summit in Riga in 2015 and bearing in mind the revision of the European neighborhood policy. Vladimir Makei welcomed the increased focus on differentiation, stabilization, and economic development. At the same time he spoke in favor of preserving the integrity of the initiative and preventing the emergence of new divisive lines in the region.

The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs also spoke in favor of regional projects able to contribute to the development of trade, investments, better transit capabilities, and the resolution of environmental and migration issues.
