MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – The OSCE should double its efforts aimed at counteracting common challenges and threats. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the relevant statement at the 25th session of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan, the ministry’s press service told BelTA.

Vladimir Makei said: “Despite the critical situation and escalating tensions in the OSCE space and the fact that attempts to resume dialogue have been unsuccessful Belarus’ confidence in the need to focus the organization’s efforts on key matters with clear uniting components is strong.”

With this logic in mind Belarus and the OSCE Secretariat hosted a high-level conference in Minsk in October to discuss the prevention and fight against terrorism in the digital age. “We intend to continue working on the counteraction of terrorism and antisemitism, including within the framework of the joint agenda of the OSCE and the United Nations Organization,” assured Vladimir Makei. “We see practical value in taking mutual relations to the next level, including by advancing dialogue between different integration processes in the OSCE space. We welcome the OSCE’s focus on digitization matters.”

Vladimir Makei noted that strong economic multilateralism can help reduce the interest in starting up conflicts.

“Belarus remains committed to supporting any constructive ideas and efforts within the framework of the OSCE, which are aimed at finding common ground in all the three security dimensions, in order to make people’s lives in the OSCE space safer,” concluded Vladimir Makei.
