Belarus-Ukraine interregional forum program agreed

Belarus-Ukraine interregional forum program agreed

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Ukraine have agreed the program of the forum of regions, which will take place in Gomel on 25-26 October, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine told BelTA.

The sides have agreed the concept and the main components of the forum’s program. Plans have been made to arrange the seventh session of the Belarusian-Ukrainian business cooperation advisory board and a business matchmaking session on the first day of the forum. Thematic conferences and meetings of representatives of industry-wise ministries will be held. A trade show of products made by Belarusian and Ukrainian companies will be opened. The heads of the Belarusian and Ukrainian delegations will meet with top officials of the Gomel Oblast administration. A friendship concert will be held on the same day, too.

The second day will see the plenary session of the forum and an interactive discussion on prospects of Belarus-Ukraine regional cooperation.

The Belarusian side has invited all the heads of the oblast administrations of Ukraine and the Kiev city administration to attend the forum. More than 20 Ukrainian regions are already busy compiling the delegations to visit Belarus. A significant number of the oblasts will be represented by top officials.

During the trade show over 150 top Belarusian and Ukrainian companies will demonstrate their know-how and cutting-edge products in the area of mechanical engineering and petrochemical industry, transport and logistics, agriculture, food industry, light industry, and tourism.

In January-August 2018 Ukraine was Belarus’ second top partner in terms of trade turnover and export and fourth top partner in terms of import. In January-August 2018 Belarus-Ukraine trade rose by 23.7% to $3.7 billion, with Belarus’ export up by 23.5% and import from Ukraine up by 24.4%.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko suggested organizing a forum of regions of the two countries when he visited Kiev in July 2017. His Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko backed the idea and noted that the next forum could be held in Zhitomir.
